LiveJournal Client Discussions

I've changed the settings of this community to make use of the new moderation features - new posts will sit in the queue until they're approved by a moderator (currently only me, any takers?). For aesthetic purposes, the community is also using the new style system, S2.

I want to put together a client FAQ for the server documentation now that I have easier access to maintain docs - some of the more common questions I've seen lately are "How do I calculate the protocol itemid to get the 'web' itemid" (recent post), and "What are the limitations on data" (answer), etc.

To round out that FAQ, I would appreciate if you could post potential questions regarding LiveJournal client programming as comments to this entry, or if you could email me them at jproulx@livejournal.com. Thank you.

Another one I've seen a lot of is "Can I get (friend of/AIM handle/userinfo) data through the protocol?"

I have a couple of questions and I don't know where to look to find the answers.

1. is there a client for Windows that will download my friends page and let me read it in chronological order?

2. Please note that the web client limits the entry properties so that "Current Mood" can only hold 30 characters and "Current Music" can only hold 60 characters.

is there any reason for this? this has bothered me for a year and a half now.

Hmm... I just stumbled upon this entry.

One of the most common questions that I've seen is "How can I get my client on the downloads page?" along with "Why isn't my client identifier showing up on my userinfo page?"

I've been making up policy for the former question up to this point--should we get a real FAQ for this, or at least put my canned answer up somewhere?

Do you have copies of your canned answers? I can put them in the manual's FAQ for now.
