troubles with flat interface, anyone know of issues? [Oct. 31st, 2003|05:20 pm]
LiveJournal Client Discussions

solved: it's my brain that was broken.

So, I've got an LJ client built with PHP, uses the flat interface... anyways, worked like a charm up to earlier today, now everytime I try to use the login mode, I get:

Invalid username

posting this string of data:

tried it with a couple other names, truly valid or not, and I still get invalid username.

so I got suspicious that maybe LJ blocked that particular IP from using the flat interface (if they even do that) so I tried from another machine, and got the same exact response.

anyone know if this is typical? happens with LJ sometimes / is happening today? ...or is it me?

anyhow, nice to run into this group :)

someone shoot me...

i was posting the data to deadjournal with livejournal usernames :/ ... Guess that would explain it *hides*

output the header info, and noticed "X-Chase: MISS from www.deadjournal.com"

sorry about wasting the space all!

i used this interface and was saddened to learn i could only get, say, friends information if i had a valid password for the account. obviously this slowed my situation! does this seem to be the case? Is it only useful for accounts for which you have a password?

yes this is true. I'm running into the same problem, I'd like to ask the interface to send me events posted by friends, but... I can't.

I can get recent events, and events under communities a user is a member of, but... not friend's events.

I was thinking of cURL'ing into LJ and scraping the friends page, but, it'd be a major league kluge.

If I come up with ideas for grabbing a friends events, I'll post on this thread, post one if you get one :)

i'm making the assumption there's no method to get friends events with the XMLRPC, I skimmed those docs, and found essentially the same commands as the flat :/

But you are saying you can get "recent events", i.e. messages from a particular user, even without their password? That's something I did not know.

I have written Friends scrapers in C# and yes, it is a bit annoying and unpleasant.
