LJBook turns your LJ into a PDF Book.

I'm looking for beta-testers for LJBook v0.3.
The following URL gives unlimited access to LJBook, for example you can include pictures (it's very bandwidth consuming, so please don't use it if you don't plan to make a serious report).

LJBook BetaTest

Changes:
- support for DeadJournal (if you are a DeadJournal user too, please test and report)
- enable/disable Header/Footer and ToC
- add a Preface
- localization ("Chapter", months, ... still incomplete)
- support for Cyrillic fonts (Russian testers appreciated! :) )
- high density pictures

This project needs some help, see: gads_ljbook (or for latest news)

And finally I got a question about Atom API: is the search service supported by LJ , if yes, what about atom-date-range (or something like this) ?

I noticed a problem - LJBook does not handle well all the special characters. In Portuguese (and other languages as well) we use characters such as à á é ó and LJBook does not show them in the text. At least, I tried to creat an LJBook based on my own LJ and those characters are not showing (for instance, it shows "msica" instead of "música", "grtis" instead of "grátis" and so on...

?! I don't see anything about this in my logs?!
Did you convert your LJ to UTF-8 ?
I have tested some of the characters you have listed, because they are used in french. Indeed they are Latin-1 characters, so nothing special, that's why it's a big surprise for me...
If someone else experiments the same thing, I urge you to comment!

Your log? What exactly are you logging, please? Entries? All security levels? Just public? Usernames? Passwords? Problems?

I'd appreciate any information you can provide about what exacctly you are logging. Thanks.

OK, I give more details about this:

login/pass are ABSOLUTELY not logged and I urge people who don't trust me to not use the service as stated on the main page (I really dislike to be treaten like a "password scam" or anything like this). They are used by programs for no more than 30 minutes. I promise it, that's all I can do.
I dont't log entries or keep them or anything like this (they are deleted once pdfLaTeX has been launched), neither security level, ...

I focus on problems and here are things that are logged:
- Apache HTTP logs (quite classic), it contains the HTTP requests made by everyone on the HTTP server, every site do it. It's not very useful for me.
- pdfLaTeX logs. And these are very very useful! Because I use pdfLaTeX for typesetting. pdfLaTeX reports every error it encounters (like unknown characters).
Here is an example:

! LaTeX Error: There's no line here to end.

See the LaTeX manual or LaTeX Companion for explanation.
Type H for immediate help.
...

l.176 "
When You Say You Love Me" \\
Your command was ignored.
Type I to replace it with another command,
or to continue without it.

Underfull \hbox (badness 10000) in paragraph at lines 176--221

So I may have a whole line of your entries in such logs that's all.

- preambule of TeX sources (paper size, font used and if you have enabled ToC, Header/Footer)

I take privacy seriously that's why I provide a HTTP SSL server and make login to LJ or DJ through Secure login.

Do you see anything wrong ? Do you want more details about something ?

I don't see anything wrong, but I was just checking to make sure. LJBook is pretty damn cool. Good luck!

Could you please send me (see my email on main LJBook page) a month of your LJ in XML (with these specials characters not appearing), because I really don't see why it doesn't work. export.bml

I just tried exporting my entire journal, with pictures and everything to it. It most likely hammered your connection, but everything worked perfectly. Great job!

How much time did it take to get your LJBook ? How many years did you requested ? How many entries ? About how many images ?
(I didn't mention it in the entry, but Images are now fetched in parallel, so it should get faster...)

Thx for beta-testing!

I hit from 1997 to 2004, although I started my LJ in 2001. Turned all the options on down the bottom, and my journal has various pictures throughout it. There's about 1500 entries.

It all ran as it should have; the only time I thought something was wrong was where it redirected to the PDF file, which took a few minutes to get, but that's just a bandwidth thing. All up, around about 10 - 15 minutes.

Nice work... just hit this year's so I didn't monopolize your bandwidth.

The picture quality is outstanding.

When my hour is up, I'm going to hit three years for keeps.
