default userpic API [Jun. 11th, 2004|08:14 pm]

[mood |exhaustedexhausted]

I seem to recall a very simple API that takes a username and returns a link that user's default icon. Does such a thing exist, or am I just imaginatively optimistic?

I downloaded the LJ server source code and didn't see anything that looked like what I'm talking about. However, I also noticed that an API that I *am* using was missing as well·

When you log in and send getpickwurls=1, it'll return a list of URLs for userpics.

but I'd like to get userpics for users who haven't supplied a password (my friends list).

why do you think usrpics (and also web entry ids) have so weird urls? maybe to prevent what you want to do

i've noticed that the last number in the url is the same as the number next to the user's name on their info page, other than that, not really sure. it seems like something that should be accessible since it is public.

Well, the alternative I plan to take is to get a user's RSS feed and parse it out of there. The last option would be a screen scrape, but the overhead there would be huge and IMO unnecessary.

I agree that it seems like something that should be made available if it's not already.
