This is a pretty big update, although this time the changes are above the hood     :)

The major portion of this update are two new plugins that were really fun to write, and really leverage the idea of LJ-on-your-desktop.  One of them does some serious number crunching, and the other uses text-to-speech technology.

Also, for those of you who have been patiently uninstalling and reinstalling every time I announce an update, this new version now supports autoupdating, so this is the last time you'll have to uninstall/reinstall.

Here's a list of the new features:
  • New plugin - Regressive Imagery Analysis. This plugin provides a psychological profile of your journal by performing a categorical content analysis, and provides the results as a Summary graph, a graph Over Time, or a summary as HTML Code that you can paste in your journal.
  • New plugin - Entry Reader, reads your journal entries aloud using text-to-speech technology.
  • Auto-update - ljArchive can now alert the user when a new version is available, and update itself automatically.
  • Smaller install size - dropped some propietary HTML libraries, allowing the install size to shrink from ~9M to ~1.3M.
  • Minor UI improvements.  Most notably, clicking on a comment will now scroll the browser page so the comment comes into view.
  • French language support (courtesy of Frederic Barthelemy).
An important note - those of you in this community who run the Regressive Imagery Analysis will be among the first to use it.  The plugin works from a central statistical pool.  That means that the first few people who use it won't initially get very accurate results because the pool will still be small.  So run the plugin now, but then run it again in a week or so to get more accurate graphs.

Please give me your impressions of the new plugins!  I'd particularly like to know if they seem unclear / difficult to use.

ljArchive is more or less feature complete for its 1.0 release.  The next release will address only bug-fixes and at that point I'll call it stable.  Right now I'm aware of only one outstanding issue - downloading comments cuts off for some users.  This is a server issue that I've reported to marksmith and I imagine it will be addressed sometime soon (?).

You can read about the new plugins here, and download the new client here.

I wonder if it would be possible to do something similar, but with communities? Like, say, I wanted to download all the entries I made to a community plus all the comments.

Just curious....

It's not currently possible, but it's possible it could happen.

Is it possible to download a journal of someone else? I would like to read a journal of my friends offline but for sure I don't know their passwords to load their journals :)

Hi yankee2d,

There was a big discussion about it in lj_dev here, but no decision has been made yet about whether anything like this will ever be possible.

Re: Download

Hi antwelm,

These posts are all outdated. The latest version can be downloaded from the main web site:

Re: Download

Thanx for that.

Downloaded and realised I don't have .NET on this latest XP reinstall....

What would U say is the best posting-client around? Currently using SeMagic 1.4.3.6, and not really happy....
