noob question...md5 response [Jan. 20th, 2005|09:50 am]

[mood |creativecreative]

thanks guys for my question earlier. I got it to work successfully. I have another question.

After I have successfully logged in via MD5 hash, do I need to keep authenticating with mode=getchallenge to do other modes like mode=getevents?

Or can I continue to use the md5 challenge and response I originally generated?

My assumption would be that the md5 challenge is only good for 60 seconds and I would need to continue using mode=getchallenge to log in.

Is this correct?

Challenges are single‑use only, and expire after, I think, around 15 minutes.

You'd think "single use" would be written anywhere in the documentation, except that it isn't.

Check out the description of the getchallenge method, though they wrote “one-time” rather than “single‑use.”

Looks like I missed it. Probably because it's otherwise pretty well described in he Challenge/Response section.

It's been a while since I did this, but as I recall you need to get a challenge for every request you make (it's single-use, so even if you're making another request within 60 seconds it won't work).

All the details are here in the protocol docs.
