LiveJournal Client Discussions

Through a less than enjoyable combination of page scraping and cron jobs, I have managed to successfully craft an RSS feed of a livejournal friends page.

http://3dgo.net/lj-rss will provide you with a form that allows you to put in your email address, LJ username, and LJ pass. After confirming your email address actually exists, the script will make an attempt to generate your feed. Most likely it will fail. If you check back at the address it gives you after about 15 minutes, you should have a real live feed of your friends page.

The password is not actually required unless you want friends-only posts to be included in your feed. So, if you are uninterested in sharing your password with me, but you still want public friends posts, go for it. A dynamically generated image is added to each entry which will show the current number of comments the entry has recieved.

If you find any problems with anything, let me know and I will attempt to correct them.

Yep...I'll try to get a link up sometime tomorrow.

Basic info: It uses Magpie RSS to fetch and parse the feeds and the FeedCreator class to create the new feed.

I'm interested in the source, too. I think the light format, for PDAs, may be close enough to RSS to allow comments to be added to the feeds.

Just add "format=light" to the URL for any friends, journal, or entry page. For example:

http://community.livejournal.com/lj_clients/227072.html?format=light

There is a link in the post with a somewhat outdated version of the source. I will work on getting a new version up that includes the comment reading.

I've made simple generator for friends/friends of so it could be imported into Safari browser on the Mac, so it would check RSS automatically.

You can check what I do have now at my site
