Who's going to write an lj client that can do chat, file sharing, ftp site management and more?

That would be truly horrible.

you should add in a web browser, X-10 controller, video editor, mp3 player, dictionary lookup tool, and web search engine to get everything covered...

:P

Well I for one . . .

. . . thought that the idea of a LJ friend list chat seemed okay. Okay the rest of it (to do with file sharing and the like) was a little OTT.

~shrugs~ then again each to his own...

Try EMACS.

IIRC, it already has an LJ client, so you could just add the other stuff as more modes. (Chats and messages could be handled something like Doctor mode.) And you could even read news from it. Be warned, however, that those of us who have vim will laugh when it takes your editor longer to load than your kernel.

Or try writing it with XPCOM for Mozilla; after all, that already has Chatzilla, FTP, and email. You could use your own stylesheet with !IMPORTANT rules to really screw up everyone's journal views, too.
