If you read the docs, you'd know that's not possible. You cannot edit interests through the existing protocol.

Of course, the hacky way around it is to try to parse

But this is undocumented, unwise, and very likely to break if the PTB decide to change the format of that page. Other than that....the official protocol....as mentioned.... doesn't allow for it...yet.

That having been said, "Code as thou wilt shall be the whole of your app ;)"

Re: Well....

As always, I'd say it's a waste of effort to parse HTML when you could use the same programming effort to extend the LiveJournal protocol.

Re: Well....

Yeah. I don't really expect anyone to follow through with it. :P

It's just so *wrong* to parse HTML, especially because we change it at a whim. Brad is adamant about never breaking old links (one we publish a URL, it'll continue to work indefinitely) but we're not going to support HTML parsing by giving the same guarantee about document structure.

Extending the LJ Protocol (wasRe: Well....)

Is there a good link for understanding the process to extend the protocol?

Re: Extending the LJ Protocol (wasRe: Well....)

http://cvs.livejournal.org , and check out ljprotocol.pl under livejournal/cgi-bin/. The way the original HTML-based page works can be deduced by looking at the source of the original page.
