Win32 client opens friends page (if checkfriends is enabled) with a sort of ?since=2001-09-04%2006:09:39 at the end of the URL.|
Is it supported by server or simply intended for page reload?
As far as I know (and I'm not really too
knowledgable on this) the ?since helps only to tell the broswer to not load a cached copy. As the ?since URL changes when the time changes, the browser should always load a fresh copy - never cached.
It would, however, be GREAT it the server accepted the ?since parameter and only displayed friends entries that were posted since the last time you checked. I think this would cut down on some server stress - instead of always loading the latest 30/40/50 posts, it would only lost the new ones.
But I think this has been posted to suggestions
before, and turned down for some reason. I'm not sure. Anyone else have any clue?

Well, I think it's about the same hit on the database... the one that grabs the last X entries has to sort them and all by date, and then return them. The one where it checks the date and then sorts them would be mostly the same I think. :)
it was implemented in a patch by alanj a long time ago. i don't know if it was ever migrated into the official server base or not.. and if it was, i am not sure it is still there.
it doesn't hurt to leave it, since the server will ignore it if it doesnt know what it is. it also has the nice side effect of not loading cached copies.
