LiveJournal Client Discussions
I've been looking through protocol docs and I could not find
the way to post comments. Could somebody please direct me in
right direction where to look for it? Thanks!
That can't be done with the protocol at present.
Could it be done with HTTP POST sumulating web form?
Possibly. At one time, I know you could do it, but the last time I tried to do something like that, I couldn't get it work. It had something to do with the Perl HTTP module I was using.

It's probably not a great idea, as the web form is subject to change without notice. Also, how might one comment using the protocol, if there's no way to read people's posts without the protocol?
Is there a particular reason you want to be able to do this in a client? The web seems perfectly functional to me. (not saying it is for all, just curious as to the requirement)

Agreed. It's more worth your time to implement the functionality you need in the LiveJournal protocol.
There is a reason I want to do this: The problem is that IE5 on MacOSX (my primary OS) does
not allow to type in russian in web worms. To be more precise it does not allow to type
in russian in web forms which are using UTF-8. So I could not commet in russian to some posts.
For posting my own entries I use iJournal client which works great. My idea is to wite small utility to post
comments. I know it is kind of hack, but I am stuck here with no way to post.
I am planning to pass URL of "Post Comment" link to it which it would parse to extract parent
ID and other required information. As extra bonus in my app I will be able to use MacOS
I did wrote utility to post comments. I will brush it up and publish
source code and binary. It is in Java, using Macintosh Cococa libraries.
I am posting this comment using it.
